Concrete drain returning to nature

There are big plans for a popular park in Loganlea. The existing concrete drainage channel that runs through Sturdee Park and under Station Road
will be redeveloped to create a more natural waterway that park users can
enjoy.
Shrubs, a viewing deck, stepping stones, a bush tucker garden and other improvements are planned to create a more natural waterway.
A concept plan has been released and a public meeting was held at the park in April to gauge community sentiment.
‘The naturalisation of the drain at Sturdee Park is about turning a concrete drain into something beautiful that residents can be proud of,’ Councillor Tony Hall says.
‘Once completed it will create a more natural feel to the park.
‘As Councillor, I have ensured the public has been kept informed of our plans through community meetings and I have welcomed feedback and suggestions for the upgrade.
‘Parks are very important to our division as they create a sense of community and also give people a place where they can exercise, play and enjoy the outdoors.’
Sturdee Park already has a number of features including a basketball area, a large dog off-leash area, a skate park, fitness equipment and a
children’s play area.
It was the City of Logan’s first ‘Smart Park’ that had smart lighting, hitech digital games and safety cameras installed in 2018.
