Logan collaboration leading the way in road safety
Logan City Council and Queensland Police Service (QPS) recently received a joint Queensland Government Award for Initiative at the Australian Road Safety Foundation Awards.
The awards, held in Canberra, recognise the efforts of organisations and individuals to reduce road trauma.
QPS and Council were awarded for their Tyre Deflation Devices (TDD) technology. The 2 organisations worked together to identify safer sites to deploy the devices.
TDDsare used to apprehend offenders and reduce the amount of time they spend on the road. QPS officers can now use a sophisticated mapping system to efficiently deploy to these sites.
This will result in a dramatic reduction of officer injury and a quicker detention of offenders with minimal risk to the public and property. The TDDs are deployed at any time of the day, where and when as necessary to apprehend an offender.
Traffic Services Coordinator and Road Safety Lead Deva Naiker (Traffic Services Coordinator and Road Safety Lead), Senior Sergeant Ben Reeve and Inspector Graham Pannowitz and the Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Taylor travelled to Canberra to receive this award.
In attendance was Hon Senator Carol Brown, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport as well as all the major sponsors.
