Logan City Council has partnered with BBQ & Beer Roadshow to bring Logan’s first and biggest BBQ Street Festival to Jimboomba.

The free event will be hosted in the town centre of Jimboomba on Brisbane St & Cusack Lane.

City of Logan councillors are hosting four local BBQ cook-off competitions throughout Logan, where suburbs will be divided up into North, South, East and West competitions.

Winners from these four competitions will cook their signature BBQ or smoked meat at the FLAME BBQ Street festival on 17 September. The FLAME BBQ Champion will win a brand-new BBQ smoker and trophy naming them FLAME BBQ Champion of their area.

COMPETITION DETAILS

Local cook-off competitions will be held at the below venues:

North: 6 August NTG Fight and Fitness Slacks Creek
South: 13 August The Whitehouse of Waterford Waterford
East: 20 August Beenleigh Tavern Beenleigh
West: 27 August Blackout Coffee Crestmead

All the events will be held from 4 pm to 9 pm.

At FLAME BBQ Street Festival, we have free earplugs available at the City of Logan information tent for anyone who has sensory difficulties. All event sites are wheelchair accessible with disabled parking. If you have a particular need, we would love to assist – just email us and we will do our best to cater for your needs.

COVID Requirements

Your safety is our priority, and you’ll notice a few new things we’ve put in place to ensure we are in line with current government regulations.

  • Sanitisation stations will be available on entry and throughout the event site.
  • Signage and markings will be in place to assist with social distancing.
  • We ask for your support to keep FLAME BBQ Street Festival a safe and enjoyable experience and ask all guests to:
    • Cover coughs/sneezes, dispose of tissues and use the available sanitiser
    • Always practice good hygiene by washing your hands regularly
    • If you have flu-like symptoms, do not attend the event. Anyone found unwell at the event, displaying flu-like symptoms will be asked to leave immediately.
  • You should not enter the event if in the previous 14 days you have:
    • returned to Australia from overseas (other than a safe travel zone country)
    • been in close contact with an active COVID-19 case
    • had a fever, cough, sore throat, headache, distorted sense of taste, shortness of breath, chills, vomiting or any cold/flu like symptoms in the last 72 hours

Frequently asked questions

  • Can we bring our pet?
    Unfortunately, no. This is a pet-free event. In the best interests of event attendees and our furry friends – we remind attendees that no pets (apart from assistance dogs) are permitted into the event precinct. These monthly events are hugely popular, drawing large crowds that range in age from babies to pensioners. While most pets are friendly, the large volume of people can cause anxiety in some pets along with safety concerns for some attendees. This decision is made with the utmost consideration for the health and wellbeing of both pets and event participants. As fellow participants and animal lovers, we thank you for your understanding in implementing this policy. Assistance animals such as guide dogs are welcome in all areas.
  • Will there be a bar?
    Yes, there will be a fully licenced bar & beer garden onsite. BYO alcohol is not permitted.
  • Is there seating available?
    There will be various seating options available at the event and patrons are welcome to bring a picnic rug well. There are also many more places to stand, eat and drink at our dry bars.
  • Is there disabled access?
    Yes. All event sites are accessible by wheelchair. Disabled parking is available onsite at each event and is managed by our Traffic Controllers. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to email for more information.
  • Is smoking permitted?
    Given that FLAME is family-friendly event as well as an outdoor food precinct, smoking is strictly prohibited on-site.
  • What items are not allowed at FLAME?
    BYO alcohol, illegal drugs, distribution of promotional material, drones, any items considered dangerous or otherwise illegal, weapons of any kind, laser lights, water pistols, skateboards, roller blades or the like, external food or picnics are not allowed.
  • Where is lost property?
    If you lose something at FLAME, please visit the City of Logan information tent and advise staff of what you have lost. Please provide your contact details, should your lost items be returned. If you have lost something at one of our events, please email the events team.
  • What happens in the event of rain or extreme weather?
    The event will only be cancelled if inclement weather is scheduled and continues on the day. To stay up to date with FLAME notifications, please make sure you click 'attending' on the Facebook event page.
  • Is there first aid available on site?
    Yes. First Aid officers are onsite for all events in case of injury. You can locate them by looking for the First Aid symbol on the event site map.
  • Are there toilet facilities available on the event site?
    Yes. Portable toilets will be hired for the event, which include wheelchair accessible toilets.

GENERAL

  1. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of the Terms and Entry into this competition deems acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

City of Logan Elected officials (Division 1- 12 Councillors) are hosting four local BBQ cooking competitions throughout Logan, where suburbs will be divided up into North, South, East and West competitions. Winners from these four competitions will cook their signature BBQ or smoked meat at the FLAME BBQ Street festival on the 17th of September. The FLAME BBQ Champion will win a brand-new BBQ smoker and trophy naming them FLAME BBQ Champion of their area. Registrations for the Local Cook-off Competitions will open Friday 1st of July and close Friday 26th August 2022

  1. To the extent of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any other reference to this competition, these Terms and Conditions will prevail.

WHO CAN ENTER

  1. Subject to clause 4 and 5, entry is open to all residents of the City of LOGAN over the age of 18, as of the date of entry, who have fulfilled the requirements set out below.
  2. Employees, and their immediate families, of the Promoter, Logan Council Elected officials and Logan City Council and associated agencies and companies can enter the competition, but are not eligible to receive the prizes for this competition. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, defacto spouse, child or stepchild (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step parent, grandparent, step grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step brother, step sister or first cousin. The Promoter is Division 9 Councillor form Logan City Council of 150 Wembley Road Logan Central QLD 4114 (‘Promoter’)

HOW AND WHEN TO ENTER

  1. Entrants may enter this competition during the Promotional Period (defined below).
  2. Entries are limited to one entry per person. Each entry must be unique and received by the Promoter within the Promotional
  3. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry In particular, entries or votes that are computer generated or are invalid and will not be accepted.
  4. Competition timeframe: The competition commences on 1st July 2022/ 9am (24HR AEST) and closes on Friday 26th August 2022/12pm (24HR AEST) (‘Promotional Period’).

SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING AND FINALIST SELECTION

  1. Only competition entries deemed appropriate will be cross promoted via social
  2. The top 3 finalists will be selected through CRITERIA by the independent judging panel
  3. The top 3 finalists will be notified by 29 JULY 2022- via PLATFORM (private message, phone call )
  4. The Judging panel may select additional entries to be used as replacements in the event that the first entrant chosen as the winner cannot satisfy these Terms and Conditions or take a prize.
  5. The winner from each local cook-off competition will represent their area at the FLAME BBQ street Festival event held on 17th September 2022

FLAME BBQ LOCAL COOKOFF RULES

SMOKING / BBQ RULES

  1. Local Sponsor Hanno’s Butchery will be providing the same protein “BEEF BRISKET” to all contestants for each cook off event to create a level playing field.
  2. All proteins must be cooked from a raw state, on site at venue location and cooked within the allocated cooking window period.
  3. Only one entry per person
  4. Only cook meat provided by the event coordinators
  5. Competitors can supply their own rub, sauce, marinade, spices, or garnishes
  6. Only approved units which are smokers/pits/barbecues/grills where the heat source comes only from wood or wood products including briquettes and pellets.
  7. Cooking units may be preheated or started before the cooking window but competition proteins
  8. cooking processes must not start prior to the cooking window opening.
  9. Contestant may not sell or distribute food to the General Public unless the appropriate Food License is obtained and only with the consent of the Event Promoter.
  10. Stay in your allocated cook site
  11. Cannot be served raw, must be cooked on approved unit, 6 portions
  12. All entries are judged on Appearance, Creativity, Taste
  13. Judges score each element out of 10 on their scorecards.
  14. Appearance– Single Weighted (out of 10)
  15. Creativity– Single Weighted (out of 10)
  16. Taste – Single Weighted (out of 10)
  17. Total points available per entry are 30 points.

ADDITIONAL JUDGING NOTES

  1. Judges may taste any or all portions in the box at their discretion.
  2. Judges must not be spouses or partners of a competitor at that event.

PROHIBITED METHODS OF COOKING PROCESSES

  1. Submerged poaching or parboiling
  2. Frying in oil – Deep or shallow
  3. Heat stamping

COOKING APPLIANCES

  1. Cooks may cook on any fire or heat source. (Wood, Charcoal, Gas, Electric, Pellet, Sous Vide etc.)
  2. Cooks will need to provide their own BBQ or Smoker and cooking utensils for the event

MANDATORY COOKOFF ITEMS CHECKLIST

  1. Sanitiser for general cleaning & hand washing
  2. Latex or rubber gloves for food handling
  3. First Aid kit
  4. Washable cutting boards or trays
  5. Esky, cooler or fridge for meat/ingredients storage
  6. Paper towel or tea towels
  7. Waste bin
  8. Digital probe or thermometer
  9. Washable portable table or preparation station provided by venue. Must be returned in same condition as supplied

FOOD SAFETY GUIDELINES

  1. Uncooked meats must be stored at or below 4 degrees Celsius at all times.
  2. If using ice to keep meats cold, ice should be on top and fully covering the meat at all times.
  3. All raw food should be wrapped, covered or placed in sealed washable containers whilst being transported and held at the event prior to cooking.
  4. Thermometers should be available and used to monitor food temperature at any/all times.
  5. When handling and preparing foods, gloves should be worn or hands must be regularly washed to limit bacteria and other foreign objects entering the food/cooking process.
  6. Safe holding temperatures for hot foods are above 70 degrees Celsius, noting that foods stored at between 5 and 60 degrees Celsius are far more susceptible to bacteria growth and harm to humans.
  7. Note the nearest washing up area on site at a competition and regularly clean all used cooking equipment with the appropriate strength cleaning solution or sanitiser.
  8. Smoking Cigarettes/Vapes inside the cooking or preparation area should not occur.
  9. Ensure appropriate measures are taken to keep preparation or cooking areas clean and clear of flies, insects or other pests.

FURTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions if this competition cannot be run as originally planned. The Promoter may also cancel or suspend this competition if an event beyond the control of the Promoter corrupts or affect the administration security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this The Promoter will disqualify any individual who has tampered with the entry process or any other aspect of this competition.
  2. The Promoter and their associated agencies and companies will not be liable or responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, technical problems of the phone or of any phone network, or any misadventure, accident, injury, loss (including but not limited to consequential loss) or claim that may occur; whilst undertaking any travel won on or connected with their entry; in the participation in any prize; as a consequence of late, lost or misdirectedmail, email SMS or phone call; due to the broadcast of any program relating to the competition or the publication of any material, including any statements made by any compere, staff member, journalist, other entrants or any other person; any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer software or phone; or any combination thereof, related to or resulting from participation or sending or receiving of any communication or of any materials in this
