Briana Dinsdale’s new single shows strength in vulnerability

Seasoned songwriter and performer Briana Dinsdale wrote her first song when she was 9 years old.

She was sharing a bathroom mirror with her younger sister at the time and talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up – and while you won’t find it in any of Briana’s 2022 setlists, she says the song stacks up.

‘It was called I Wonder – and it’s a catchy tune,’ Briana says.

‘I have always loved singing and performing. There are many, many terrible videos of me out there putting on little showcases when I was a child.’

Since then, her songwriting talents have matured and her musical talents have soared – that much is clear upon first listen of her latest single, Irresistible Force.

Irresistible Force

Loganholme-based Briana says she felt nervous to ‘let the song out’ before its release – but was heartened by positive feedback after performing it live.

‘This single is about my first heartbreak, and it’s very vulnerable, very raw,’ she says.

‘I wrote it on my own initially and then took it to my friend Melody Moko, a Golden Guitar winner who helped me turn what was something I wrote very quickly the morning after I got dumped to what it is now.

‘I’m very proud of it and excited that it is out.’

Briana has a busy year ahead, with more singles coming out and plenty of live gigs.

Things have already moved fast in Briana’s career. She released her first album while in Year 12 and performs regularly.

Earlier this year, Briana shared the stage with names like Pete Murray, Alex Lloyd and The Whitlams at Melting Sunsets – the first blockbuster concert at the new Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct.

‘It was the best day ever – I couldn’t believe I was in the same line-up as some of those names,’ she says.

‘It was also great playing first because it meant that then we could relax and enjoy the rest of the show.

‘I love performing live, it is my favourite thing to do especially with my band. It’s so exhilarating and I get all this natural serotonin, whereas when I am on my own I get really nervous – it feels so vulnerable.’

Her band consists of sister Ashlyn on bass, guitarists Brodie Campbell and Jackson Thompson and drummer Baxter Dalgliesh.
