Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct coming soon!

Logan City Council is redeveloping the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct into a vibrant cultural heritage and performing arts hub in the heart of Logan – and locals can experience it all early in the new year. 

The precinct will host indoor and outdoor performances and events, night markets, farmer’s markets, and major festivals. It will be a place where the City of Logan’s rich cultural heritage and diversity is celebrated. 

What’s in the precinct? 

Living Museum of Logan 

The living museum will be a place to see, hear and experience the stories of the people who have made the City of Logan what it is today. It’s a contemporary social history museum that is family-friendly and welcoming to Logan’s diverse communities.  

Displays will explore ideas and stories that acknowledge the city’s past, illuminate the present and help the community imagine their future. The museum will be a place for communities to tell their own stories in their own words, through arts and cultural expression, providing opportunities to raise awareness and build upon respect. 

It will feature a co-curated space by and for Logan’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Visitors will be able to learn about First Nations language and culture, and hear digital stories from Logan’s Elders. 

The display spaces will provide a changing program of displays. Opening exhibitions also include stories from Logan’s kitchens, markets and gardens, and photography of local street fashion styles. 

Butterbox Theatre 

This is the City of Logan’s newest indoor performance, rehearsal and workshop space, including a black box theatre. It has capacity for 220 people, retractable seating, and a hush room. Stay tuned for the opening season program. 

Outdoor stage 

The largest outdoor events space in Logan has capacity for crowds of up to 5,000 (pending COVID-19 restrictions). An exciting program of large-scale community events and major festivals in 2022 will be announced soon.  

Plaza 

This new outdoor space will host events, markets and community gatherings. It features original artwork by local artist Sally Terare, with a new children’s playground nearby. 

Logan City Historical Museum 

The Logan City Historical Museum Society Inc. returns to the Kingston Butter Factory precinct in a purpose-built new heritage centre. Its exhibits tell the story of the region’s European settlement and development of the City of Logan from 1826 to the present day.  

Cottage 

Devon Pixies Teahouse is relocating from Logan Village to the renovated historic workers’ cottage. 

Public art 

Large-scale public art pieces feature on site by Sally Terare (plaza) and Lincoln Austin (outdoor stage).
