Scones and serenity

Devon Pixies owner Arwen McGregor makes memories with fluffy scones and dainty triangle sandwiches.

Taking a cue from Britain, Devon Pixies offers a traditional high tea experience complete with three-tiered china stands and old country hospitality.

With a background in hospitality and tourism, Waterford West local Arwen took over the Devon Pixies business in 2014 with a mission.

Devon Pixies is now open at the Kingston Butter Factory Precinct

“People need to know Logan has tourism. So, you’ve got to employ local because they’ll be passionate about the area.”

— Arwen McGregor

‘I wanted to create a place where memories can be made with the next generation. People tend to have high tea with an older relative, like an aunt or grandma and it becomes a special memory,’ says Arwen.

‘It’s a very different experience – it’s the ceremony of sitting, chatting, and enjoying time with each other properly and it’s not rushed like a coffee date.’

Arwen honours the tradition with a dollop of local rustic charm, where all the treats are baked on-site with time-tested family recipes.

“That’s the charm of Logan – it’s classed as a city but still has that small-town friendliness and accessibility and you can have a real chat with other people.”

— Arwen McGregor

Previously located in Logan Village, Devon Pixies has been the go-to spot for baby showers, birthdays, and catch-ups for the past 7 years.

Arwen is a proud advocate of the ‘employ local, think global’ philosophy.

‘People need to know Logan has tourism. So, you’ve got to employ local because they’ll be passionate about the area.’

‘With that passion, you tell stories and create a great experience for visitors,’ says Arwen.

‘That’s the charm of Logan – it’s classed as a city but still has that small-town friendliness and accessibility and you can have a real chat with other people,’ she says.

And that’s what sets Devon Pixies apart as a hallmark in the City of Logan.

Now established in the new Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct and pretty in pink, you’ll want to linger as you’re whisked back in time to a more leisurely era.

Amid a charming collection of china donated by loyal customers, Arwen and her team continue to share local stories to the next generation over a steaming cup of Devon Pixies special blend tea.

Devon Pixies is located on 270 Jacaranda Ave, Kingston QLD 4114.
