Lights brighten future for Jimboomba United

The playing fields at Jimboomba United Football Club (JUFC) are now almost as bright as the smiles of its players.

New lights have been installed on each of the club’s five fields at Kurrajong Park, which has enabled an expansion of the weeknight training schedule.

Councillor Scott Bannan also funded the installation of a new LED scoreboard through the Division 9 Local Infrastructure Program, to help further modernise the club’s main field.

“Our sporting clubs go above and beyond for the local community, so I’m always keen to give back to them in a huge way,” Cr Bannan says.

“I can’t wait to watch the scoreboard light up as the kids get out to play.”

JUFC President Stuart Strong says the upgrades came at a fantastic time for the club, with its senior men’s team promoted to Football Queensland’s Premier League 5.

“It has been 21 years since we’ve had a senior men’s team promoted; it’s been a great year and this is another step in the right direction,” Stuart says.

“The new lights double the number of (full-sized) fields that we can play night games on and we can train at night on all five fields.”

Project works included the replacement of timber light posts with steel poles. Electrical upgrades were also done to ensure the club’s lighting infrastructure complies with current standards.
