Things to do for seniors in the City of Logan

Logan’s seniors keep our city humming. They are among our most active volunteers, the keepers of our histories and supporters of our communities. And there’s plenty on offer for seniors across the City of Logan, to keep bodies and minds active and connections strong.

We’ve rounded up some of the top groups and clubs on offer for seniors in Logan.

1 – Chatty Café

Every month, at 4 cafés across Logan, the Chatty Café provides a great space for seniors to drop by, meet new friends and make connections with like-minded locals. Located at Beenleigh, Marsden, Logan Central and Browns Plains, the buzzy groups are warm, welcoming, and a great place to start some new friendships.

2 – Active & Healthy

Logan City Council’s Active & Healthy program offers plenty for seniors, including functional fitness, aqua aerobics, bellydancing, Zumba, walking groups and more. Whatever your activity level, there is something on offer.

3 – Men’s Sheds

Community projects, barbecues, conversations, shared interests and learning new skills – it’s all on offer at Logan’s Men’s Sheds. They are held regularly at multiple locations across Logan – Beenleigh, Greenbank, Munruben, Crestmead and Logan Village.  These groups offer connection and friendship to men, improving mental health and also providing a way for local blokes to give back to the community.

4 – Walking Football

If you’re one of the many football fans over 50 in Logan, walking football is a great way to stay connected to the beautiful game, stay fit, and make friends along the way. Greenbank Walking Football Club is an active group that trains, plays and socialises together. You don’t need experience and the group welcomes new players.

5– Library classes

Every day, across Logan’s 9 libraries, there are classes for all ages, all interests and all skill levels. Seniors can attend ‘Be connected for older Australians’ to discover more about staying in touch with family, managing money, and follow your hobbies online. There are also language groups, book clubs, men’s conversations groups, writing classes and author talks.

6 – Probus

Probus clubs provide an opportunity to meet fellow retirees, attend monthly meetings with guest speakers, and enjoy a range of activities such as walking, theatre, coffee groups, lunches and day outings. In Logan you can choose from Springwood, Beenleigh, Loganholme or Cornubia branch.

7 – KENG Older Person’s Action Program

There really is something for all ages at Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG). The Older Person’s Action Program offers a range of activities: cooking, crafts, computer skills, yoga and more. All activities take place in the welcoming setting of KENG. You’ll also be able to access resources around mental health, elder abuse, cultural awareness, health and wellbeing and more. The Older Person’s Action Program is funded by the Queensland Government Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors

8 – Starts-at-60 Meetup

On the first Tuesday of every month, Starts at 60 Loganholme meets for coffee and connection. Starts at 60 is a national organisation for over-60s which is free to join and offers news, views and community events.

9 – Logan’s community centres

There are 15 community centres across the City of Logan, all amazing resources for the community offering social, cultural, recreational and education activities. Here you’ll find new interests, friendship and the support we all need sometimes.

10 – Social clubs

There are plenty of places across Logan to grab a meal, see a show and catch up with friends that are designed with seniors in mind. Check out Brigalow Country Club in Eagleby, the Silver Series program at Logan Entertainment Centre, or one of Logan’s RSL or golf clubs.

11 – Giving back to the community

Logan’s seniors are among the most active in our many community groups. For those seeking to make a difference as well as find new connections, consider reaching out to Rotary Club of Logan, Rotary Club of Beenleigh, or Quota Beenleigh.
