Logan heat of Australian Poetry Slam
Poetry in motion at spoken word contest
The City of Logan is looking for Australia’s next poetry slam champion.
The local heat of the Australian Poetry Slam (APS) is at Extraction Artisan Coffee in Slacks Creek from 6.30pm to 9pm on Thursday, September 21.
Finalists in the 2023 APS will be drawn from 60 heats around Australia including Logan.
Interested participants need an original poem to take part and will have two minutes to win over the audience.
A slam masterclass, open to participants aged over 16 years, will be held at Logan North Library before the heat from 3.30pm to 5pm.
Spoken word artist Angela Peita will provide tips and tricks to help slam participants further develop their skills before they take to the stage.
The Brisbane-based artist is a founding member and current producer of one of Australia’s largest poetry slams Ruckus Slam.
Lifestyle Chair Councillor Tony Hall said slam poetry was a dynamic art form.
“It is about the originality of the poem as well as the way in which it is performed or slammed to the audience,” Cr Hall said,
Registrations are essential for the masterclass and the slam and can be made at loglib.org/poetry
