New look 'koala park' is a huge hit

Work on the first 2 stages of the $6.34 million upgrade of Alexander Clark Park is completed and the park is set to reopen soon.

Upgrades within the much-loved recreation park in Loganholme include a new main playground with water play equipment, flying fox, slides and swings, a volleyball court and a basketball court.

There is also a circular track for bikes, scooters and rollerblading, along with a sensory garden, shade sails, park shelters and furniture.

A koala-shaped play tower that is almost 5 metres tall is the centrepiece of the park.

The new playground area is set to open in early December and community members will be invited to celebrate with a free sausage sizzle, coffee van, face painting, giveaways and Council information stalls.

Cr Stemp is looking forward to the community enjoying a fun and inclusive space once the multi-staged upgrade works are completed.

Division 10 Councillor Miriam Stemp says the inspiration for the tower came from the koalas that live in the bush areas of the park.

‘We wanted to include a feature in the park design and the tower reminds us of how lucky we are to live with koalas in suburbia,’ Cr Stemp says.

Stage 3 includes upgrades to the park entrance, additional parking and toilet facilities.
