Picturesque parks in Logan
Parks are for everyone, whether you’re looking to host a picnic or just escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We’ve rounded up some of the most picturesque parks in Logan where you can breathe in fresh air and enjoy the facilities.
Underwood Park, Priestdale
Here you’ll find one of most idyllic picnic spots in the City of Logan, complete with a gazebo set behind a luminous lagoon with a decorative bridge. With skate facilities, barbeque grills and a massive playground straight out of a storybook, there’s plenty to do besides admiring the grounds at Underwood Park. This park is home to Funderwood Hollow, the largest Spielart playground in Australia, complete with whimsical treehouses, climbing wall, pedal monorail and more. The most recent addition to the park is the labyrinth, where visitors are encouraged to reflect and meditate as they follow a swirl of paths. In the centre of the labyrinth is a large rose quartz crystal – known as the stone of unconditional love, peace and healing – imported from South America. There are also terraced grass areas and a water feature with decking for yoga and tai chi.
Logan Gardens, Logan Central
Whether you want to sunbathe, play, exercise, or fire up a barbecue, Logan Gardens has it all. You’ll find gorgeous gum trees and plenty of prime picnic spots among them. The park also boasts a water play area, fitness station, disc golf, walking and bike tracks and off-leash areas for dogs. There’s even a liberty swing, which allows children in wheelchairs or those with a physical impairment to enjoy the experience of swinging under the sun.
Flagstone Park, Flagstone
Beat the heat at Flagstone Park, an oasis in the summer months. Kids absolutely love the water play area with its multiple standing water buckets that will soak them from head to toe. There are also water jet shooters and fountains to frolic in. There’s even a popular dog-friendly water park, so you can bring the entire family. If you’d like to stay dry, don’t miss the gigantic playground with slides, ropes and a skate park. Meanwhile, mum and dad can relax as there’s ample seating available – just remember to pack on the sunscreen and bring a hat because there are fewer shaded areas in this park.
Daisy Hill Conservation Park, Daisy Hill
A haven for both humans and koalas, there’s much to do at Daisy Hill Conservation Park. Multiple trails are available for mountain bikers, equestrians, and bushwalkers. There are also undercover seating areas and plenty of grassy spots to set up a picnic or barbecue lunch. Finish off a perfect day out with a free visit to the Koala Centre, where you can learn more about the species through keeper talks and interactive displays. Your kids will love watching the resident koalas eat and snooze in the large outdoor enclosure.
Berrinba Wetlands, Berrinba
If you’re looking for fresh air and lake views, Berrinba Wetlands is teeming with natural beauty and wildlife. You’ll sight possums scurrying in trees and pelicans near the water as you stroll or bike through 8.5 kilometres of shared trails. If you’d like to learn more about the area, there is also an interpretive centre with interactive LCD screens and a viewing platform. As there are 100 bird nesting boxes, Berrinba is a favourite among birdwatchers.
Logan River Parklands, Beenleigh
Logan River Parklands, situated near the iconic Red Bridge, is a neighbourhood favourite with something for everyone. All the usual facilities – like toilets and barbecues – are available, making this a popular gathering spot for friends and birthdays. You’ll find a sizeable playground, volleyball court, riverfront pedestrian walkways and even an inbuilt ground trampoline. There’s also an off-leash area for dogs where your pets can roam free, along with a particularly great fishing spot under the highway bridge.
Tygum Park, Waterford
Little pirates rejoice, as Tygum Park features a number of ship-themed structures that will delight them. With tunnels, stairs and slides, you’ll be able to get some quality alone time. We recommend taking a stroll down the picturesque boardwalk across the lagoon, admire the resident ducks or take a seat in one of the covered picnic areas if you’re on supervisor duties. Older kids will also love the climbing fort, skate park and half basketball court available.
Riverdale Park, Meadowbrook
Another waterside-themed park, Riverdale Park is known for its gazebos and duck lagoon. With multiple grassy areas, it’s easy to find a spot for a picnic or people-watching as parkgoers often get into a game of footy or soccer. The boat-shaped playground will also entertain the kids for hours, especially the designated parkour area that is popular among the older kids. The park is also connected to the river if you’d like to get in some fishing.
Darlington Parklands, Yarrabilba
Darlington Parklands has everything: water, climbing walls and more. The splash park features a fountain pad and flowing water that feeds into a shallow play pool with a rock design. You’ll be surprised by how long the pool can keep your kids entertained. Another highlight is the double flying fox, where you can zip across the sand with a friend. For the older kids, there is also a sports oval for cricket or footy along with a basketball area.
Kingston’s Anzac Park also deserves an honorary mention – don’t miss the beautiful jacaranda trees this season. For even more fun in the sun as the temperatures rise, schedule an afternoon date at one of these free water play parks in Logan.
