From the Mayor's Chair

I would like to start by saying a big thank you for choosing me as your new Mayor. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent and serve our community.

The Council you voted in at the recent elections has the right combination of experience, enthusiasm and fresh ideas. All 13 of us want the best for our city. We want Logan to live up to its potential and to have the great reputation we know it deserves. We also know it will take hard work to get there.

The need for hard work was one thing that I did not shy away from in my campaign.

It’s what I promised to do every day – and it’s what I am asking of you. I am calling on all of us, everyone, to dig deep and work together for Logan. Through hard work, we harness the best of our city, protecting what we love and transforming the areas that still need work.

I believe that together we can achieve great things for our city and our community. They won’t all happen overnight, but when they do, it’ll make you even more proud to say you’re from Logan.

One of the reasons Logan’s future is so bright is because we are officially the fastest growing city in Queensland. That brings amazing opportunities, but it also brings challenges.

My promise to all 377,000 Logan residents is that I will be open and transparent with you on this journey. To me, communication and leadership go hand in hand. Great leaders listen to their community and are there when you need them – and that is the kind of Mayor that I will be.

I will fly the flag for our city wherever I go to make sure people know why Logan is an amazing place to live and what they’re missing out on if they’re not local.

Our community spirit is what sets us apart, and it is why people who live in Logan love it.

A few weeks ago, I was out in Logan Village and a young bloke called Mark stopped to chat as he was putting out his bins. He told me he’s never been interested in politics before, but seeing the buzz around this election, now he’s excited to get involved. Like me, and like you, Mark wants to see a brighter future for Logan.

People like Mark are one of the reasons I won’t be chained to my desk – I will be out in the community hearing from residents and looking for opportunities to bring here to Logan.

To many of us, that means improving Logan’s reputation. But changing how people think and speak about Logan isn’t just about making us feel good. It has real impacts on our city – and it brings investment, jobs and opportunity.

We are the youngest, most diverse and fastest growing city in the state, so let’s harness our strengths. Together, we’ll build a brighter future for Logan – a city that’s ready to launch.

– Mayor Jon Raven
