Cyclone recovery grants and support for Logan
Recovery is now the priority for City of Logan following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with a range of financial assistance and face-to-face support services available for residents.
Whether Logan locals are uninsured, lost power, couldn’t work, were injured or had property damage due to the cyclone’s impacts, Logan City Council, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government have a variety of ways to assist with recovery for those who are eligible.
This includes Australian Government assistance for New Zealanders.
Queensland Government grants include:
- Emergency Hardship Assistance: $180 for individuals, up to $900 for families of 5 or more.
- Essential Services Hardship Assistance: $150 for individuals, up to $750 for families of 5 or more. (Only active after 5 days without service.)
- Essential Household Contents: $1,765 for individuals, up to $5,300 for couples of families. (Home visit required and photographic evidence.)
- Essential Services Safety and Reconnection: Inspection costs – $200 for safety inspection for water, electricity, gas and sewage, $4,200 for repairs or replacement of these services. (Home visit required.)
- Structural Assistance: Uninsured, low income, owner-occupiers may receive up to a maximum of $80,000 to help repair your home to make it safe, secure and habitable. (Home visit required.)

Community Recovery Hubs are opening to help Logan locals who are experiencing hardship, to apply for grants, financial assistance and obtain emotional and wellbeing support.
Community recovery workers at these hubs will help people with grant applications and offer referrals to other community organisations and government agencies for further assistance.
Logan Community Recovery Hubs
Community Recovery Hubs throughout Logan will stay open until Saturday, 5 April, and are located at:
- Beenleigh Events Centre – on the corner of Crete and Kent Streets. Open now, daily, 9 am to 4 pm.
- Browns Plains – Hive West, Logan West Library, 69 Grand Plaza Drive. Open now, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm.
- Jimboomba – Caddies Community Centre, 19-33 South Street. Opening Thursday 13 March, 2 pm to 4 pm. Then daily from 14 March, 9 am to 4 pm.
- Logan Central – Logan Central Library, Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, 26 Wilbur Street. Opening Friday 14 March, 2 pm to 4 pm. Then from 15 March, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm.
Australian Government Support

This webpage information includes details on lump sum payments and ongoing, short term allowances to help those who are eligible. These include:
- Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment – A lump sum to help people who’ve been directly affected by this declared disaster, including major damage to a home or major asset, or serious injury.
- Disaster Recovery Allowance – Support for lost income as a direct result of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
- New Zealand Disaster Recovery Payment – A lump sum to help eligible New Zealanders affected by this declared disaster, including major damage to a home or major asset, or serious injury.
- New Zealand Disaster Recovery Allowance – Support for eligible New Zealanders who’ve lost income as a direct result of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

These webpages contain the latest important information on topics such as any road hazards or flood warnings that remain, power outages, parks and trails closures, bin collection, kerbside clean-ups and waste and recycling facilities open, immunisation clinics and more.
They also include valuable information such as where those without power can charge their mobile phones and devices and access wi-fi, and how Logan residents and ratepayers can dispose of storm/flood waste at no charge, including waste from any missed bin collection last week, until 5.30 pm Sunday, 16 March.
