Native shrubs stabilise slope

Keen gardeners will know that sometimes it takes a few attempts to find the best solution to a problematic backyard issue.

It’s been a bit like that with the embankment adjacent to the concrete pathway alongside the Underwood Park lagoon.

Division 1 Councillor Lisa Bradley says native plants, sandstone blocks and weed-barrier matting has proven to be a nature-based solution to a weather-impacted slope.

‘Grass struggled in the partly shady conditions and storm runoff repeatedly resulted in erosion and mud covering the concrete path,’ Cr Bradley says.

‘The new plants will stabilise the embankment, reduce the erosion and storm runoff while also adding to the natural environment in this section of Underwood Park.’
