Cultural pride on show as NAIDOC Day turns 50
The Logan Elders’ NAIDOC Family Fun Day at the KBF Cultural Precinct was the largest in South East Queensland and a huge success.
The day was filled with excitement and joy as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture was celebrated, marking 50 years of NAIDOC Day.
This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, was on display as everyone came together to join the festivities and reflect on stories of resilience, achievements and cultural pride.
As always, Logan NAIDOC Day had something for everyone.
This included cultural dance, fashion shows, music performances, language workshops, kids’ rides, face painting, an art show, damper competitions, panel forums, a free sausage sizzle, burgers and a games arena.
There were more than 80 stalls run by local groups, community organisations and First Nations artists. They offered everything from beautiful artwork and fun t-shirts to information about important local services.
An estimated 7,500 people came through the KBF Cultural Precinct gates on the day with Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane praising the organisers of the event for providinga positive, family-focused experience.
‘This was a day for our Logan community to celebrate the contributions of First Nations people in our area,’ Cr Lane says.
‘The Logan Elders and their sponsor partners worked hard to make this event happen and exceeded all expectations this year!’
