Community spirit ensures kind neighbourly support is a call away

A helping hand is not far away in Division 5 thanks to Neighbour in Need volunteers.

The community-based program, an initiative of Logan Connect Inc., organises teams that help local residents with practical help and support each month.

The volunteers take on tasks such as mowing, gardening, tree trimming, and pressure washing, along with window and gutter cleaning.

They also get stuck in when required on indoor tasks including tidy ups, cleaning and other housework.

Craft activities, cooking meals, or just a chat with new neighbourhood friends are other available options.

Neighbour in Need coordinator Kerry Anderson says up to 30 volunteers are involved and more are welcome.

Volunteers pitch in from 9 am to 11 am on the first Sunday of each month.

‘This is community-based and community-driven and our goal is to build a template that can be replicated in any area where there is a need,’ Kerry says.

Division 5 Councillor Paul Jackson, who regularly participates in the program, says neighbours helping neighbours is a win for everyone.

‘It is just 2 hours a month for volunteers, but the work done is invaluable for those who can’t get some of these tasks finished on their own,’ Cr Jackson says.
