Australian Artists Awards winners on show in Loganlea
The Australian Artists Awards is showcasing the 2025 winners this week in Loganlea, with 2 local artists receiving accolades.
Logan artists Murray Charteris and Colleen Brown each received a Highly Commended in the annual Awards, which is the only competition aimed at emerging artists who paint as a hobby.
The winner of the $6,000 first prize this year is Casey Charles, of Brisbane, with the artwork Banana Beach, followed by the $1,000 second prize going to Brendan Keogh, of the Sunshine Coast, for his work Wrapped In Light.
The artwork of the winners and 50 finalists is on display between 10 am and 3 pm daily until Thursday, 25 September, at Able Gallery, The Logan Artists Association, at 27 Coral Street, Loganlea.
Logan artists have a strong record of recognition within the Awards, with the 2024 second prize winner being Crestmead local Wayne Hansen, who attends the Crestmead Artists group.
The Highly Commended this year was handed to Murray for his work Athyrium: Leaflocked in the confines of the canvas, and to Colleen for Tamborine Rainforest Path.
The awards are sponsored by Logan City Council, and the awards Patron is Logan Mayoress Ali Raven, who attended the announcement of winners to congratulate the artists.

Logan Arts Collective President James Brown, of Bahrs Scrub, says judging was by the artists themselves.
‘They must vote for artworks using an anonymous voting system that ensures they each cast 10 votes, one to each artwork other than their own,’ James says.
‘There were 1,620 votes and the artworks with the most votes win the Awards.’
