Uplifting tales to lead book club discussions
Book lovers in the City of Logan will be encouraged to embrace an eclectic mix of titles that will shine a light into their lives and brighten their day.
Logan Libraries will launch its 2022 Uplift Virtal Book Club this month.
City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said the club would encourage members to explore both fiction and non-fiction books designed to lift their spirits and make them smile.
“After a couple of challenging years, we want to give people the chance to connect through some heart-warming stories,” Cr Koranski said.
The book club will be held from 11am to 12.30pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month via MS Teams. It kicks off on Wednesday, February 23.
Cr Koranski said the new club would provide a great avenue for people to meet
like-minded people who loved books.
“The discussions will be led by our library officers who are extremely passionate about books and reading.
“They have chosen some wonderful books and look forward to sharing them with participants.”
The first session in February will focus on Gail Honeyman’s award-winning novel Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
There are plans for this book to be adapted into a movie.
The club will feature a number of overseas bestsellers during the year including Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library and Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People.
The Australian titles include comedian and media personality Celeste Barber’s Challenge accepted!, Kathy Lette’s husband replacement therapy and Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb’s new book Well Hello: Meanderings from the World of Chat 10 Looks 3.
Book club participants will need a computer, laptop or tablet so they can connect to the internet.
They will need to register so that they can receive a booking link before each month’s session.
