Power to the youths

At just 15 years old, Madison Ash is finding purpose and making a difference in the City of Logan.

An active member of the Logan Youth Action Group (LYAG), Madison represents youth at the local government level, helping coordinate community events to engage, inspire and unite others.

‘I’ve always been passionate about helping others realise they have a voice in the community,’ Madison says.

‘Before LYAG, I didn’t realise how much impact I could make or how meaningful this kind of work is.’

From a young age, Madison has gravitated towards leadership roles and LYAG has helped her flourish.

Her favourite project to date involved event planning, graphic design and connecting with local artists to plan a street art workshop.

‘The best part is getting to meet cool people from Council and others in the community that are passionate,’ Madison says.

‘I didn’t know anybody outside of high school before this and it’s so fun to work on projects with people that have similar goals.

‘Absolutely anyone can join, because you’ll learn so much as part of LYAG.’

LYAG has also shaped her future career aspirations.

‘I’m aiming for law – I love debating and hearing about others’ beliefs,’ Madison says.

‘I’ve also enjoyed the legal aspects of working with Council and participating in political events.

‘It’s also a good opportunity to build skills for your resume, gain connections and expand your horizons.’

Open to change-makers based in the City of Logan between ages 14 to 24, sign up on the Logan Youth Action Group website.
