Gang gets together to overcome isolation
Lillian Stranic is a gang leader but this isn’t the sort of gang you need to worry about.
She formed ‘The Scooter Gang’ last July in an effort to bring people together in Logan West.
‘I’ve always been very community minded and I was looking for a way to help older people overcome loneliness and isolation,’ Lillian says.
‘All the doctors say how bad it (loneliness) is for you. I see a lot of people using mobility scooters so I thought that would be a good way to
bring people together.’
The ‘gang’ catches up every third Saturday at Boronia Bushland Reserve at 1 pm. It’s open to people of all ages and you don’t need a scooter.
Councillor Tim Frazer is an enthusiastic supporter.
‘It’s great what Lillian and her team are doing for our seniors, as they often struggle to find the social networks they need,’ Cr Frazer says.
‘I’m happy to help The Scooter Gang any way I can and have greatly enjoyed watching its membership grow.’
State Member for Logan, Linus Power, is the gang’s patron along with the previous member, John Mickel.
