Your ticket to Brett Whiteley exhibition

Art lovers are encouraged to secure their free tickets to view the works of one of Australia’s most celebrated artists at Logan Art Gallery.

The exhibition – Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio – will run from Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, September 8.

Before his death in 1992 at the age of 53, Brett Whiteley was a multiple winner of three of Australia’s premier art prizes.

He was awarded the Archibald Prize in 1976 and 1978, the Sir John Sulman Prize in 1976 and 1978 and the Wynne Prize in 1977, 1978 and 1984.

The travelling exhibition, which highlights Whiteley’s studio practices, is a collaboration between Logan City Council, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Brett Whiteley Studio.

Logan Art Gallery is one of four regional galleries across Australia to host the exhibition followed by Perth, Orange and Ballarat.

It is free to attend the exhibition, however a ticket is needed.

Set to be featured are paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages, ceramics and sketchbooks alongside a playlist of songs from Whiteley’s vinyl record collection.

Rarely seen photographs depicting Whiteley at work and sometimes at play in studios in London, New York and Sydney will also be displayed.

Art Gallery of New South Wales curator, Brett Whiteley Studio, Nick Yelverton said this is a unique opportunity for Queensland audiences to see iconic works by Whiteley.

‘The works in this exhibition are highlights of both the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Brett Whiteley Studio collections in Sydney,’ Mr Yelverton says.

‘We are excited to take Whiteley on the road and give interstate audiences the chance to delve into the life and mind of one of Australia’s most important artists. I am also delighted that the tour will be launched in Queensland, at Logan Art Gallery.’
