Calling Logan artists to enter Australian Artists Awards
The Australian Artists Awards is on again this year to offer thousands of dollars in prize money and a leg-up for local emerging artists.
Logan Arts Collective President James Brown, of Bahrs Scrub, is encouraging artists to enter the 2025 Awards by the end of July deadline, for a chance to win first prize of $6,000, second prize of $1,000 and 10 Highly Commended awards … not to mention their work being displayed at Loganlea’s Able Gallery.
‘This is the only competition aimed at emerging artists – people who simply paint as a hobby,’ James says.
‘Judging is only by the artists themselves,’ he explains.
‘They must vote for artworks using an anonymous voting system that ensures they each cast 10 votes, one to each artwork other than their own. The artworks with the most votes win the awards.’
James says in 2024, a local City of Logan artist who is ‘very new to painting’ won a prize.
‘Wayne Hansen, from Crestmead, who attends the Crestmead Artists group that meets at the community hall there every Thursday, won second prize with his painting of a kangaroo,’ James says.
Artists can enter a maximum of 2 artworks by 31 July, and the chosen 50 finalists will be on display at the Able Gallery in Loganlea in September.
The awards are sponsored by Logan City Council, and the awards Patron is Logan Mayoress Ali Raven.
