Five fun facts about Beenleigh’s Red Bridge 

For most Logan locals, Beenleigh’s Red Bridge is an iconic part of the landscape. Whether you simply drive past it on the highway, or are one of the hundreds who walks, jogs, bikes or skates across it, it’s on the periphery of our lives. 

But how much do you really know about the bridge and its history? 

Here are some facts about the Red Bridge that might be surprising: 

1 – The Red Bridge hasn’t always been red! It was painted between March 2005 and November 2006. Prior to that it was grey. 

2 – The bridge opened in July 1931, and was then called the Logan Toll Bridge. It was replaced by a 2-lane northbound bridge separating Beenleigh and Loganholme in 1986.  

3 – In 1947, the toll bridge was inundated by floodwaters. 

4 – The Red Bridge was featured in the 1992 movie Fortress, starring Christopher Lambert (before it was red!).Check out the Red Bridge in the movie  Check out the movie here – the scene on the bridge is from 1:48 – 6:20. (Warning – it’s a dystopian movie.) 

5 – The bridge’s latest facelift was in 2019, when it was painted its current shade of Waratah Red.
