Here are a selection of the best cultural and heritage sights to see in Logan:

Living Museum of Logan – Kingston Butter Factory Precinct

See, hear and experience the stories of those who made the City of Logan what it is today at the Living Museum of Logan. Take a trip down memory lane at this contemporary social museum, where you can witness the evolution of Logan’s BMX freestyle scene, listen to digital stories told by Logan’s Elders, learn about First Nations language and culture, and more. Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple – Priestdale

Spend a quiet afternoon at Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple, a spiritual and cultural hub spread across 80 acres of tranquil rainforest in Priestdale. After meandering through ornate Chinese landscaped gardens and pavilions, you’ll find a stunning collection of traditional and contemporary art in the Exhibition Hall. The hall showcases a range of artwork from both Eastern and Western traditions – a testament to the city’s vibrant multiculturalism. Wrap up the day with a visit to the on-site Water Drop Teahouse, where you’ll find a variety of vegetarian fare and kid-friendly options such as savoury scones and chiffon cake.

Logan Art Gallery – Logan Central

Logan’s leading visual art gallery presents a dynamic program of exhibitions, talks, events and more. A must-do for day-trippers and locals, the award-winning Logan Art Gallery showcases new exhibitions every 6 to 7 weeks and provides a platform for artists and art forms of all cultures. The gallery also features acclaimed touring exhibitions on loan from major galleries throughout the year.

Mayes Cottage Museum – Kingston

Celebrate the ingenuity and resilience of Logan pioneers at Mayes Cottage, a well-preserved colonial home dating back to 1887. As the house, outbuildings and garden have had very few changes, you can step back in time and experience life of a bygone area. Stroll through the fruit trees planted in the early 1880s or peek at the slab hut, shed and milking yard built by John and Emily Mayes. Pack a picnic for a relaxing day out or share a yarn on the veranda with friendly volunteer guides.

Logan City Historical Museum – Kingston

History comes to life at the Logan City Historical Museum, where rotating and permanent exhibits tell and preserve the city’s remarkable stories. From European settlement and development from 1826 to the present day, these exhibits cover topics such as Logan’s early industries and involvement in both world wars.

Logan Village Museum – Logan Village

The Logan Village Museum brings together 4 buildings and a plethora of artifacts – some dating back as early as 1790 – to showcase how life has evolved since the Village’s settlement in 1863. You’ll find anything and everything from family heirlooms to farming equipment and books. Highlights include a recreation of a historical kitchen, complete with kitchen goods and kids’ toys, along with a collection of war paraphernalia from World War I.

Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum – Beenleigh

Embark on a journey of years gone by when you enter this beautiful establishment at 205 Main Street Beenleigh. Stroll through and soak in the history thanks to the collections of early Australian heritage organised as a village that preserves the cultural legacy of the old Beenleigh region. There are heritage buildings including St George’s Anglican Church built in 1875, as well as an Art Gallery and Village Cafe. Also be sure to enjoy Spirits of the Red Sand, an interactive Aboriginal live theatre show.

Khmer Buddhist Temple – Marsden

This ornate temple is a must-see to experience Cambodian culture and Theravada Buddhism in Marsden. Theravada Buddhism differs from Mahayana Buddhism as it emphasises core Buddhist teachings to break the cycle of reincarnation. The temple showcases classical Khmer architecture with its pillars, tiered roof and spire design, painted in rich shades of red, green and gold. It’s a great place to stroll and admire the Buddhist statues and art.

Sri Selva Vinayakar Koyil (Ganesha Temple) – South Maclean

Take in the awe of the distinctive temple dedicated to Ganesha, the Hindu god of prosperity and success. It’s impossible to miss this breathtaking temple and its stepped pyramid design – have a closer look and you’ll realise each tier features numerous Hindu deities.

Yugambeh Museum – Beenleigh

Explore the history, language and culture of the original people in our area at Yugambeh Museum Language and Heritage Research Centre, open to the public on Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm, or by appointment, and teach the kids how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and heritage is an important part of our community.
