Art workshops outshine screen time
Children are learning there is a life beyond their electronic devices thanks to the Logan West Community Art Share Alliance Inc (LWCASA) at Hillcrest.
The Alliance is a provider to Council’s KRANK school holiday activity program and its art, clay and glass-fusing courses and workshops are among the most popular.
‘We usually fill 10 classes in under 15 minutes after bookings open and then have a wait-list of hundreds,’ LWCASA founder and president Sherry Austin says.
‘The classes allow children to express themselves however they want, and they soon realise they are all artists in their own way.’
Logan mum Mary Jou enrolled her sons, Marco and Jorco, into a clay-modelling course during the April school holidays and attended the classes with them.
‘We all found it very interesting. My children really enjoyed it as it was something different to do,’ Mary says.
Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer says LWCASA’s contribution to the local community goes well beyond the KRANK classes.
‘The Alliance offers classes and workshops in a range of activities for all ages and abilities, including those with special needs or disabilities,’ Cr Frazer says.
‘I encourage anyone looking for a new activity or hobby to get in contact with them.’
LWCASA’s base is a Council-owned building in Orr Street at Hillcrest.
