Big birthday bash for neighbourhood milestone

Forestdale is home to Queensland’s longest-serving Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) group.

To celebrate 35 years of unbroken service, local residents were invited to a ‘Big Birthday Bash’ in Lincoln Green Park which featured food stalls, a raffle and rides for kids.

It was estimated more than 1,500 people attended the all-day event.

Mayor Jon Raven and Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer made a visit and praised the group’s efforts.

Forestdale NHW keeps a local lookout on more than 900 houses.

Forestdale NHW Area Coordinator Lynn Whittingham says strong communication across traditional and social media platforms is the key to the group’s success and longevity.

They also work very closely with local liaison officers from Queensland Police Service and Logan West SES.

‘If something is happening in our area, we want everyone to get the latest information as quickly as possible,’ Lynn says.
