Bursaries support next generation of athletes
This year’s recipient of Logan City Council’s Game on for Women bursary program is ready to get back into the classroom.
Loganholme’s Phoebe Bastian has received $5,000 to support her sport-related studies and is delighted about her win.
Phoebe hopes to nurture a love for sport in kids.
‘It’s all about seeing the kids understand, practice and suddenly be able to do something new,’ Phoebe says.
Not only does she juggle her duties as a mother, she’s also a cricket coach, team manager and association secretary for the district.
‘I’ve always been involved in sport, but I got into this for my son as he’s heavily involved in the Loganholme cricket club,’ she says.
‘It’s never too late to follow your dreams, as an adult and just going into this now.’
The Game on for Women program was developed with the support of the Queensland Government’s Active Kit Funding in association with Logan City Council and Brisbane LIONS.
Logan City Council is committed to supporting Logan women in sport as players, coaches, officials, and leaders. The Bursary supports women to enter the sports industry, which has been male dominated.
