Consultation is key to positive change

Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall believes local residents and businesses are reaping the rewards of open and extensive community consultation.

‘We live in a democracy and people have the right to raise issues that concern them,’ Cr Hall says.

One prime example was the Queensland Government’s proposal to upgrade Bethania railway station as part of the Faster Rail project, he says.

‘There were some concerns in our community about whether there should be an underpass or overpass at the new station,’ Cr Hall says.

‘Others wondered about the potential impact on local Council-owned infrastructure such as the swimming pool and community centre.

‘I listened to those concerns and so did TMR (Transport and Main Roads department) and I was happy to see changes were made to the final designs.’

Cr Hall intends to continue the momentum of community consultation into the new year with a series of mobile offices and other local engagement across 2026.

‘I encourage everyone in the community to contact me personally or through my office if they have an issue in their neighbourhood they would like to discuss,’ Cr Hall says.
