Daring to dream big on new Kingston skate park
Plans are still evolving for a new skate park in Kingston.
Public consultation on the plans was conducted earlier this year.
The survey period drew 580 people to the Kingston skate park ‘Have Your Say’ page and feedback from residents showed overwhelming support (79.5%) for a skate park.
Based on that strong feedback, Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane is now thinking bigger.
‘Funding of $500,000 has been set aside for a skate park project but I want to try and deliver something bigger and better,’ Cr Lane says.
‘I would like to see a facility that encompasses skateboarding, scootering, BMX and inline skating in one location.
‘I am setting up meetings with philanthropists and hunting for any government funding opportunities for youth programs that will allow us to build a fenced-in secure skate park worthy of local kids’ time and energy.
‘I am aiming for a facility that will challenge kids and adults of all ages and where youth work will be a core part of the process.
‘It’s a pretty big goal to reach for but I think our community is worth it and if we can pull it off, we will be the better for it.
‘Let me know your thoughts on what our newest skate park should look like.’
