‘Division 2 Green Guide’ helps locals
Whether you were born here or moved here, Australian wildlife and plants can be confusing and sometimes frightening
Australia is home to 20 of the 25 most venomous snakes in the world, but most don’t live in Logan.
So, creating a small booklet to identify local reptiles, small mammals, marsupials and insects that can be found in Division 2 suburban yards seemed like the easiest thing to do for Councillor Teresa Lane.
‘The booklet has tips on creating a native-friendly garden, how to set up a bee hotel, supporting reptiles in your garden, how to tell the difference between rats, rodents and mice, and what a snake is versus what a lizard is,’ Cr Lane says.
‘Australia has 60 native species of rodents, including the water, bush and tree rats which are awesome for local ecosystems, so poisons can be doing harm to our native animals.’
The Division 2 Green Guide has some home remedies for the garden and ‘Nana’s natural remedies’ people can try in the home.
