Insurance for the next big blackout
Funding has been provided to Slacks Creek Rugby League Football Club to help purchase an electricity generator in preparation for the next severe weather event.
The Usher Park club opened its doors as a community refuge centre after ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred hit in March.
But Council and club officials had to close the drop-in centre soon after when power was lost in the area.
‘If we have another emergency situation like in March, our local community will benefit from this power generator being ready to keep the lights on at the Lions’ clubhouse,’ Division 3 Councillor Mindy Russell says.
The purchase of the generator was supported by the Division 3 Community Benefit Fund (CBF).
Applications for CBF support in 2025/26 reopened in July.
