Neighbours band together for community

Two organisations in Division 7 provide a vital link between the Queensland Police Service and the local community.

The Forestdale and Hillcrest Neighbourhood Watch groups are part of Neighbourhood Watch Queensland and work with local police, residents and businesses to reduce crime.

Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer says the groups are the backbone of the community.

‘All residents in those areas are invited to be part of their local group,’ Cr Frazer says.

‘This is all about neighbours watching out for each other to protect their properties and working closely with the police to identify potential security issues and keep each other safe by ensuring suspicious activity is appropriately reported.’

The Forestdale group is active throughout the year, holding events such as the Forestdale Motor Show, Food Truck Jam, Coffee with a Cop, Christmas in the Park and The Santa Train.

A Hillcrest group spokesperson says they annually run a family fun day attended by Queensland Police and Queensland Fire representatives and are looking at expanding their events schedule in 2026.
