New ‘wombat’ pedestrian crossing for safety at popular Flagstone parks
With summer now in full swing and the holiday season drawing near, a new ‘wombat’ safety crossing has been completed in Flagstone.
The crossing, between Flagstone Adventure Park and the Flagstone Tigers’ sporting precinct, delivers a major safety upgrade for pedestrians and motorists.
A ‘wombat’ safety crossing is a raised pedestrian crossing that improves driver visibility of pedestrians and slows traffic, making it safer for children, families, and community members to cross the road confidently.
Division 11 Councillor Natalie Willcocks says the crossing was a direct response to extensive feedback from local residents and families who regularly cross between the water park and the sports fields.
‘I heard loud and clear from residents that this area needed a safer connection,’ Cr Willcocks says.
‘With so many young families enjoying Flagstone Adventure Park and attending games or training at Flagstone Tigers, this crossing on Flagstonian Drive is a vital local road safety improvement.
‘With increased foot traffic expected during the warmer months and school holidays, the timing couldn’t be better.
‘It’s all about keeping people safe, especially our kids.’
The crossing complements broader efforts to improve walkability and connectivity across Flagstone.
The project is another example of how the Local Infrastructure Program can respond to community needs and enhance safety for everyone.
