Raw talent captures gaze of rugby league scouts

Rugby league fans should keep their eyes peeled for some local faces on the field this year, after 14 graduating students from Mabel Park State High School were selected for NRL teams throughout Australia.

Division 3 Councillor Mindy Russell says the school had once again cemented its reputation as a powerhouse for future NRL prospects with the selection of the former year 12 students.

Cr Russell says their recruitment recognised the students’ hard work along with the school’s commitment to its rugby league program of excellence.

Tyson MacDonald, who has joined the Gold Coast Titans, says his goal was to be selected into an NRL team after switching to Mabel Park 2 years ago to harness future opportunities.

Jahzayis Perenara-Livapulu says he feels privileged to have been selected by the Brisbane Broncos.

Both boys say they are looking forward to working with their respective club’s senior development program.

The latest students selected for the NRL are Jahzayis Perenara-Livapulu (Brisbane Broncos), Tyson MacDonald (Gold Coast Titans), Dean Tauaa (South Sydney Rabbitohs), DJ Talaepa (Cronulla Sharks), Quinn Timperon (Manly Sea Eagles), Jakyea Tehuia (Wests Tigers), Isaiah Te Pairi (Canterbury Bulldogs), Natu Leota (Canberra Raiders), Riley Baker (St George Illawarra Dragons), Ezra Leota (Canberra Raiders), Braddock Taylor (St George Illawarra Dragons), Sire Drinnan (Newcastle Knights), Clay Taylor (Melbourne Storm) and Jordan Tuuga-Stevenson (Perth Bears).
