Shining a spotlight on local activities

Engaging local children in their neighbourhood is the aim of a special booklet created by Division 5 Councillor Paul Jackson.

The activity book includes information about each of the division’s 4 suburbs – Berrinba, Marsden, Crestmead and Waterford West – along with different activities and challenges.

Edge Early Learning Marsden’s Centre Director Simone Miles says the booklet was presented to the centre’s graduating kindergarten students in December to provide them with a fun activity they and their families could do over the school holidays.

Miss Miles says the booklet supports the work done by the centre on sustainability and the environment.

‘The kids all loved receiving their activity packs with the booklets and I’m sure they all spent many hours interacting with them,’ Miss Miles says.

Cr Jackson is already planning a new series of booklets to encourage kids to help solve problems in their community and report issues that need fixing.

‘We were so thrilled with the response from childcare centres, schools and community groups to our first booklet that we decided it would be great to share a new edition this year full of extra and updated information,’ Cr Jackson says.

‘We are currently putting this together and hope to share it with the community in the coming months.’
