Smarter manufacturing is a win for environment

Award-winning manufacturing company B&C Plastics is continuing to kick goals this year, driven by a focus on resource efficiency, operational improvement and a commitment to the environment.

Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall says the innovative company won 3 awards at last year’s Logan Business Distinction Awards and is taking practical steps to reduce its impact on the planet.

‘It was awesome to see them being recognised in this way for the work they are doing in the medical sector, turning discarded plastic products into sharps bins and other items,’ Cr Hall says.

‘They are part of the Meadowbrook Medical Precinct, which is transforming the area into a major health, education and well-being hub centred around Logan Hospital.’

Company spokesperson Royston Kent says the company had embarked on a concerted sustainability journey for the past 8 years.

‘Over the past year, we achieved a 26.9 per cent reduction in energy and an 18 per cent reduction in the amount of water used, and we are being sought out by other businesses in our sector keen for guidance to help with waste-reduction and recycling,’ he says.

‘We love watching this ripple effect occurring as we use our experience to lift the entire industry.’
