United effort elevates access to Gould Adams pool
Great things happen when Councillors team up and support life-changing community projects.
Swimmers raised concerns with Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane about mobility issues that made it extremely challenging to access the main pool at Gould Adams Aquatic Centre in Kingston.
In seeking a solution to the problem, Cr Lane recruited fellow Councillors Mindy Russell (Division 3), Paul Jackson (Division 5) and Tony Hall (Division 6), who have residents that travel to Kingston to use Gould Adams Aquatic Centre.
The Councillors’ combined resources provided the necessary funding to purchase a hydraulic lift to address the pool access issue.
‘It took a while to find the right fit for such a small space, but the new hydraulic lift restores dignity to those who can’t safely use the pool stairs,’ Cr Lane says.
‘This support mechanism opens access to a range of pool activities and programs for people with mobility challenges.
‘It also means local residents now have a more inclusive space, ensuring every member of our community can enjoy swimming at Gould Adams Pool.’
Those who need to access the lift, or are carers of someone who could benefit from using it, are required to have a safety briefing.
