Activities for Logan seniors in Qld Seniors Month
It’s Queensland Seniors Month in October and the perfect time of year to recognise how Logan’s seniors keep our city humming.
They are among our most active volunteers, the keepers of our histories and supporters of our communities. And there’s plenty on offer for seniors across the City of Logan, to keep bodies and minds active and connections strong.
Here is a selection of what’s on during Queensland Seniors Month within the City of Logan:
Logan libraries for Qld Seniors Month
Logan’s libraries have an astounding array of classes, workshops, talks and sessions all specially devised for seniors during the month of October. Choose from practical sessions such as ‘Understanding changes to aged care support’, ‘Scams Awareness’ and ‘Tech help’ to fulfilling topics such as ‘Meet, Make and Do’ and ‘Memory to Memoir’ with a local heritage specialist on hand. EVENT HAS BEEN HELD: Join a joyful seated movement class designed to boost brain health and lift your spirits! Ageless Grace® is a playful program that activates 5 key brain functions through music and simple movements. All ages and all abilities are welcome. EVENT HAS BEEN HELD: Cuppa & Craft is a free Healthy Ageing Hub event, supporting improved health outcomes for older people. Amputees Queensland invites the community to join Cr Teresa Lane from Logan City Council for a creative morning at Cuppa & Craft on 17 October at the Ben Matthews Playground Community Centre in Logan Central. Logan Aged Care Community Expo
EVENT HAS BEEN HELD: The Logan Aged Care Community Expo at the Diggers Services Club in Logan Central on 22 October is a free event bringing together aged care providers, services and supports under one roof. Older Australians, their families and carers are warmly invited to explore options, ask questions and connect with local services. Plus, there’s a free coffee for the first 200 attendees! Logan City Council programs for seniors
Council has a range of programs that focus on increasing older people’s awareness of healthy lifestyle options, reducing social isolation and encouraging City of Logan’s seniors to continue to connect and be involved with their community. Advance Care Planning Service clinics
Residents in the Metro South Health region can access free clinics with the Advanced Care Planning Service team, which offers free monthly information sessions held at local Community Health Centres. These one-on-one sessions are designed to answer your questions and make planning simple. Convenient telehealth appointments are also now available. In the Logan area there are local clinics held at Beenleigh Community Health Centre, Browns Plains Community Health Centre, and services are available at the Logan Hospital. EVENT HAS BEEN HELD: This annual event will run from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, 3 October at the Logan Entertainment Centre, to celebrate and connect seniors for a day of entertainment and fun, including a performance by Wonder. We’ve also rounded up some of the top groups and clubs on offer for seniors in Logan.
Logan City Council’s Active & Healthy program offers plenty for seniors, including functional fitness, aqua aerobics, bellydancing, Zumba, walking groups and more. Whatever your activity level, there is something on offer.
Community projects, barbecues, conversations, shared interests and learning new skills – it’s all on offer at Logan’s Men’s Sheds. They are held regularly at multiple locations across Logan – Beenleigh, Greenbank, Munruben, Crestmead and Logan Village. These groups offer connection and friendship to men, improving mental health and also providing a way for local blokes to give back to the community.
If you’re one of the many football fans over 50 in Logan, walking football is a great way to stay connected to the beautiful game, stay fit, and make friends along the way. Greenbank Walking Football Club is an active group that trains, plays and socialises together. You don’t need experience and the group welcomes new players.
Every day, across Logan’s 9 libraries, there are classes for all ages, all interests and all skill levels. Seniors can attend ‘Be connected for older Australians’ to discover more about staying in touch with family, managing money, and follow your hobbies online. There are also language groups, book clubs, men’s conversations groups, writing classes and author talks.
Probus
Probus clubs provide an opportunity to meet fellow retirees, attend monthly meetings with guest speakers, and enjoy a range of activities such as walking, theatre, coffee groups, lunches and day outings. In Logan you can choose from Springwood, Beenleigh, Loganholme or Cornubia branch.
KENG Older Person’s Action Program
There really is something for all ages at Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG). The Older Person’s Action Program offers a range of activities: cooking, crafts, computer skills, yoga and more. All activities take place in the welcoming setting of KENG. You’ll also be able to access resources around mental health, elder abuse, cultural awareness, health and wellbeing and more. On the first Tuesday of every month, Starts at 60 Loganholme meets for coffee and connection. Starts at 60 is a national organisation for over-60s which is free to join and offers news, views and community events.
There are 15 community centres across the City of Logan, all amazing resources for the community offering social, cultural, recreational and education activities. Here you’ll find new interests, friendship and the support we all need sometimes.
Social clubs
There are plenty of places across Logan to grab a meal, see a show and catch up with friends that are designed with seniors in mind. Check out Brigalow Country Club in Eagleby, the Silver Series program at Logan Entertainment Centre, or one of Logan’s RSL or golf clubs.

Logan’s seniors are among the most active in our many community groups. For those seeking to make a difference as well as find new connections, consider reaching out to Rotary Club of Logan, Rotary Club of Beenleigh, or Quota Beenleigh.
