Message from the Mayor, Summer 2025-2026: Great achievements in 2025 - more to come in 2026!

Mayor’s message in Our Logan summer magazine 2025-2026

As we farewell another big year and welcome in 2026, I want to take this moment to talk about some of the great things your Council has achieved in 2025.

One of my highlights early in 2025 was hosting the inaugural Mayor’s Multifaith Breakfast.

It was amazing to see so many people of faith gather to break bread and pray together.

The diversity of Logan is one of our strengths – and it was certainly on show that day.

I’m looking forward to hosting the next one on Tuesday 31 March, so please make sure you get your tickets from Logan Arts (loganarts.com.au), as this one will be bigger and better!

The Wilbur Street Youth Centre in Logan Central celebrated its first anniversary. Over 40,000 young people have been through its doors – and what a positive impact it is having on our Logan Central and Woodridge community.

When I was elected, I promised Council would engage more than ever and we delivered on that in 2025.

Not only have I hosted regular ‘Meet the Mayor’ pop-up stalls at shopping centres around our city, we also had more community consultation than ever before in Logan history.

You were invited to give feedback on rates reform, the Council budget, the draft planning scheme Logan Plan and flood mapping.

Across these topics I have replied to tens of thousands of emails and comments and I will keep this level of engagement going throughout 2026.

It feels like a lifetime ago, but it was just March when we responded to the first cyclone that had hit our region in more than 50 years. It showed just how resilient Logan is: the community came together to help each other sandbag and prepare their homes.

Thank you so much for everything you have done to make this city an amazing place to live.

Another reason why we’re the fastest growing city in Queensland is because of the great lifestyle we offer.

We have brought some huge events to Logan.

Most recently we had Six60 put on an incredible show at Kingston Butter Factory. We also made the news for our strong community turnout welcoming Toa Samoa and Fetu Samoa teams for the Pacific Rugby League Championship, and the New Zealand Warriors claimed Logan as their new hometown in Australia.

The Lasso Country Music Festival and Flame BBQ And Music Festival were fantastic events. I’d love to see more of these!

In January, Logan is hosting the 2026 Heyball World Cup at Marsden State High School’s Centre of Excellence. This event has the highest prize money (US$865,200) for any cue sports event ever conducted in the Southern Hemisphere!

They chose Logan as a host because I’ve been talking our city up everywhere I go, and investors are keen to come to Logan to create jobs and opportunities for locals.

Logan also secured the biggest grant in Queensland from the state government’s Residential Activation Fund: $130 million for a new wastewater treatment plan to be built at Chambers Flat, plus another $20 million for road upgrades in Yarrabilba and Flagstone.

We’re also opening a new 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool at Beenleigh, and a $64 million materials recycling facility is set to open at Browns Plains in July 2026.

This project is jointly funded by 3 levels of government to create more local recycling jobs right here in Logan.

While this is just a snapshot of our achievements in 2025, I’d like to thank you for your support.

Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year, and I can’t wait to update you on more Logan wins soon!
