Former resident returns to scene of literary inspiration

Author Jackie Bailey is on her way back to the city that provided the setting for her first novel.

Ms Bailey grew up in the City of Logan where she attended Kingston State School, Maryfields Catholic Primary School and Springwood State High School.

She will visit on Thursday, August 4 to host an author talk at Logan North Library from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

The session will discuss the themes and the people that inspired her debut book The Eulogy.

 The discussion will also be online at the same time via the Logan Libraries’ YouTube channel.

Ms Bailey, who now lives in the NSW region of Illawarra, is an SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition finalist.

The Eulogy is based on her family’s experience of the death of her sister Allison after she lived most of her life with various degenerative conditions as a result of brain cancer.

It is a novel about family, death and grief that is also full of love, humour and life.

Ms Bailey, a funeral director and inter-faith minister, set The Eulogy in the City of Logan because she felt there were limited books about growing up and living in the city.

She has warm memories of growing up in the city and remembers regular visits to Logan Central and Logan Hyperdome Libraries

The novel also includes mentions of Logan Hospital and the Logan Hyperdome shopping precinct as well as other well-known City of Logan locations.
