Logan mourns passing of Queen Elizabeth II

The City of Logan is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Mayor Darren Power said today.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors, Council staff and residents of the City of Logan, we send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family,” Cr Power said.

“During her 70-year reign, the Queen was loved and respected around the world for her grace, courage, and dedication to public service.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this sad news.”

Flags at Logan City Council’s main administration centre in Logan Central were lowered to half-mast this morning as a mark of respect.

Consideration is now being given by Council as to what other civic actions might be taken during the official period of mourning.

The Queensland Government has opened an online condolence book at qld.gov.au/condolences. This will be presented to the Royal Family at a suitable time.

Government House in Brisbane said plans are underway to allow the public to pay their respects at a statue of Her Majesty the Queen on the Estate in Fernberg Road at Paddington.

The Australian Government announced that the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Governor-General David Hurley will travel to London next Thursday to attend the Queen’s funeral and to meet King Charles III.

More details on official plans for the period of mourning in Australia are expected to be announced in coming days.
