Storm recovery information

As the clean-up continues in the City of Logan following last week’s severe storms key information has been provided by Logan City Council to assist the community.

This includes:

• Heavy shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to continue throughout today and potentially into tomorrow.
  A flood watch is current for areas in southeast Queensland, including the Logan and Albert river catchments, and flood warnings may issued as required. Please refer to gov.au/qld/warnings/
  Residents are urged to watch out for these alerts and Council will continue monitor the situation and provide updates as required.
• From today (Monday, January 1), a Community Recovery Hub will operate at Jimboomba Library and Community Centre on Honora St and run from 9am to 4pm daily until further notice.
  The hub will provide a place for residents to talk to support and Community Recovery staff, receive referrals for community and government agencies, apply for hardship grants and receive insurance information.
• Two Community Recovery Hubs are also operating from today at Tamborine and although these hubs are located in the Scenic Rim Council area, they will be available also to assist City of Logan residents who live in close proximity.
  The hubs are located at:
  Tamborine Memorial Hall, 2760 Waterford-Tamborine Road, Tamborine Village – Open from 9am to 4pm today (Monday, January 1) and tomorrow (Tuesday, January 2)
  Vonda Youngman Community Centre, 2-4 Knoll Road, Tamborine Mountain – Open 9am to 4pm daily from today (Monday, January 1) until Sunday, January 7.

• Council’s Disaster Dashboard is regularly updated and is the best place for the community to seek information on impacted roads. For the latest information visit logan.qld.gov.au
• Road debris and road closures can be reported to Council on 3412 3412. All non-urgent requests can be reported at qld.gov.au 
• As of 9.30am, 2077 customers remained without power across the city.
• Food safety advice for both residents and businesses can be found at Food Safety During Power Outages. If you are unsure about the time that has passed or the temperature your food has been stored at, then throwing the food out is the safest option.
• To assist with the storm clean-up, residents are able to dispose of storm-related waste at Council’s transfer stations at no cost. Large loads greater than two cubic meters must be taken to the Browns Plains transfer station.
• Council’s waste contractor Cleanaway is continuing to collect bins following delays this week in some suburbs due to storm damage blocking access to streets and bins. If it’s safe to do so, continue to leave your bin kerbside on collection day, and it will be collected as soon as possible.
• While all parks are open, except for Mundoolun, Greenwood Lakes and Brushwood parks, the community needs to be aware there may be debris from the storms still in some locations and exercise caution.
• Care also needs to be taken on the city’s many bike trails as there may be storm debris including fallen trees and branches.
