Logan Esports Cup Returns

City of Logan logs on for Esports Cup

Aspiring gamers in the City of Logan will have their chance to shine on the virtual stage when the 2023 Logan Esports Cup returns next month.

New and experienced gamers will compete for the title of Logan Cup Champion and their share of a $1000 prize pool at the Logan Entertainment Centre on March 25 and 26.

The free tournament will feature popular games, including Super Smash Bros Ultimate, 2v2 Rocket League and Mario Kart 8 on both Xbox and Nintendo consoles.

School pride will be on the line for students competing in the tournament’s High School competition.

Students will go head-to-head in Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Rocket League to find out which school has the best gamers in South-East Queensland.

The event also includes an educational workshop for gamers, parents and teachers to explore the careers and opportunities available in Esports and gaming, as well as player welfare and benefits.

The 2023 Logan Esports Cup is supported by Logan City Council’s Event Attraction Program. Council previously hosted the event at Logan Metro in 2022.

Mayor Darren Power said the city was looking forward to hosting another successful Logan Esports Cup.

“It’s great to welcome this innovative and modern event back to Logan for another year,” Cr Power said.

“Esports is rapidly growing in popularity worldwide, and it’s fantastic that we can support it by hosting events like the Logan Esports Cup.”

City Lifestyle Chair, Cr Laurie Koranski said there would be some fierce competition over the two days.

“We have a passionate community of Esports competitors in Logan,” Cr Koranski said.

“It will be exciting to see our local talent test their skills against each other in March.”

Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane said Logan Entertainment Centre was an excellent venue for the tournament.

“I expect it will be filled to the brim with aspiring and emerging ESports talent with their parents and carers from around the city,” Cr Lane said.

“The event workshops will be a great way for locals to learn more about this popular activity and I encourage everyone to attend free as spectators.”

Australian Esports League CEO Darren Kwan said he is looking forward to working with the Logan City Council to build on the success of last year’s event.

“The event will be a drawcard for many passionate gamers in the community and beyond, providing a platform for them to connect with like-minded people, participate in competition and showcase their talents,” Mr Kwan said.

“With the support of the Council, we will not only be able to better serve our communities but also promote the growth and recognition of esports for young gamers in the region. I look forward to seeing everyone there and welcome all players of all skill levels.”
