Park upgrades for holiday fun
Jurassic joy rises from Riverdale bedrock
Yabba Dabba Doo! The dinosaur-themed new playground at Riverdale Park in Meadowbrook is now open.
And students from Loganlea High School’s Year 9 Signature Class can take credit for inspiring the mammoth Jurassic makeover by Logan City Council.
They helped decide the theme for the $2.65 million after being invited by Lifestyle Chair and Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall to be ‘Councillors for a Day’ as a school exercise earlier this year.
The new adventure playground includes:
- Two dinosaur-shaped climbing structures
- Statues of baby dinosaurs and eggs
- Swing set topped with a winged dinosaur
- Mini dinosaur rocker
- Fossil digging area
- Colourful play tower with two tunnel slides
- Tee pee, trampoline, climbing net and log steppers
The upgrade works also include a large fitness hub, new shelters, park furniture, two barbecues, a water bubbler and shade sails along with extensive landscaping and new gardens.
The project was funded by the Division 6 Local Infrastructure Program along with Council’s Major Parks and Asset Replacement Programs.
Cr Hall says the fun theme has appeal for everyone.
“The students from Loganlea High School did a fantastic job in deciding a theme which makes Riverdale Park as memorable as it is enjoyable,” Cr Hall says.
“Everyone who visits the park will want to go home with a photo next to the dinosaurs. As well as a lot of fun, it’s also great tourism promotion for Division 6 and the City of Logan.”
Riverdale Park is at the end of Armstrong Road in Meadowbrook. It also features a parkrun course, a duck pond, picnic rotundas, large open lawn spaces and access to the Logan River.
Works have also been completed on an upgrade of Lansdown Park in Lansdown Road, Waterford West.
New equipment installed includes a climbing structure with dual slides a double swing, a rocker, a digger and a new drinking fountain.
The existing shelter and park name signs have been painted while a new bench seat is on the way.
The project was funded by the Division 5 Local Infrastructure Program.
Division 5 Councillor Jon Raven said Lansdown Park is popular among local families.
“We all value our green spaces and safe playgrounds and I know the locals appreciate having a fun park like this just a short walk from home,” Cr Raven said.
Three new pieces of fitness equipment, including a chest press machine, will be installed in coming weeks in Julie Park, in Julie Street at Crestmead.
New play equipment, including a rocket ship slide and a moon buggy, has been installed in Solandra Park in Regents Park and is on track to be opened by Christmas.
