Play your part in road safety this week, and always

City of Logan residents are being reminded that ‘Road safety starts with me’ during Queensland Road Safety Week (August 22-26).

Logan City Council is throwing its support behind the annual awareness campaign as part of its SafeRoads4Logan program, which is a partnership with local police, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Health and RACQ.

Mayor Darren Power said everyone had a role to play in keeping themselves, and each other, safe on the road.

“Council has long had a proactive approach towards road safety, and earlier this year we adopted the SafeRoads4Logan Road Safety Strategy 2022-26,” Cr Power said.

“Every day, road crashes devastate the lives of Queenslanders and take an enormous toll on families and communities.

“Road safety starts with you every time you use the road, regardless of whether you’re a driver, passenger, pedestrian, or you ride a bike, motorbike, or e-scooter.”

Logan District Police are focusing on the fatal five – speeding, seat belts, drink/drug driving, fatigue and distraction – at a road safety expo tomorrow (Tuesday, August 23) at Logan Central Plaza from 10am to 2pm.

Cr Power encouraged people to visit the expo, and to think about road safety every time they’re on or near local roads.

“Every life lost is a terrible tragedy, and we can all take steps to prevent unsafe behaviour.”
