Plenty to splash about at Logan North Aquatic Centre

Councils approves addition of new splashpad

The City of Logan’s youngest residents will soon be able to join in the fun at Logan North Aquatic Centre, with Council approving the addition of a new splashpad at the facility.

The splashpad will complement the multi-million upgrade to the 50-metre Jodie Henry Pool, unveiled last October.

The additional works will also encompass an upgrade to changerooms, including the addition of a ‘Changing Places’ facility which caters to the needs of people with a disability and wheelchair users.

Mayor Darren Power said the upgrades would complete the premier aquatic facility.

“Logan North Aquatic Centre is home to a world-class 50 metro pool, and now it will have the water play area and changerooms to match,” Cr Power said.

“Since the upgrade of the Jodie Henry Pool, we’ve had people travel from across Logan, and even from Brisbane and the Gold Coast to use the facility.”

The $3.3 million project will be partially funded by $470,000 of Division 3 Local Infrastructure Program funding.

City Lifestyle Chair Cr Laurie Koranski said the project would be a welcome boost for the popular facility.

“Council is proud to continue to invest in our facilities that support an active and healthy community,” Cr Koranski said.

“The existing changerooms and children’s play area have been well used over many years and these upgrades will ensure this facility remains a premier aquatic centre.”

Division 3 Cr Mindy Russell said the new splashpad and changerooms would be a major drawcard.

“There will be plenty of families in Division 3, and across the city, who will be excited about visiting Logan North Aquatic Centre once these works are completed,” Cr Russell said.

“With the new 50-metre pool, the existing heated indoor 25-metre pool, and now a new splashpad, there will be something for the whole family to enjoy.”

A timeline for construction of the splashpad and upgrade to the dressing rooms will be set once designs are finalised.
