Manga madness for school holidays at Logan Libraries

The secrets behind Japanese-style comic books and graphic novels will be revealed in a series of manga and drawing workshops hosted by Logan Libraries in the September-October school holidays.

Writer, artist and illustrator David Lovegrove is one of Australia’s best-known manga artists and amazingly can draw with two hands at once.

In the first workshop online via Zoom, David will discuss how to draw manga faces and give them expressions which help tell a story.

This hands-on workshop will run from 10am to 11am on Thursday, September 22.

David will host a second online workshop for children aged 10 and over between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday, September 22 on how to draw Manga figures in action.

Dinosaur drawing lessons will also be held with award-winning author and illustrator Michael Salmon from 10am to 11am on Thursday, September 29.

Logan Libraries’ free online school holiday program includes Minecraft eSports and chess classes.

Children from beginners to more advanced players can learn how to play chess or further refine their skills through online classes for different ages and levels.

Details of all activities, including the chess sessions, can be found at September school holidays – free events – Logan City Council Libraries (loganlibraries.org)

Online courses will also be available between Monday, September 19 and Friday, September 23 to help participants aged eight years and over become competition ready for eSports.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said Logan Libraries’ program was a wonderful way to banish school holiday boredom.

“The program offers a range of fun, free activities for different age groups and interests and I encourage everyone to take a look at what is on offer,” Cr Koranski said.

“Our libraries are not just places filled with books. They also allow people to learn new skills through workshops and information sessions.”

Take-home craft packs for different age groups can also be accessed from all Logan Libraries with limited stock available between Monday, September 19 and Saturday, September 24.

Bookings are essential for all activities and can be made via September school holidays – free events – Logan City Council Libraries (loganlibraries.org)
