Turning the page for Harmony Week

Stereotypes and prejudices will be challenged as Logan Libraries celebrates Harmony Week.

The library is hosting the Human Book of Logan from 10am to 11am on Monday, March 21 both online and in-person at Logan Central Library.

A Human Book is where people are “on loan” to readers and Duku Fore is Logan Libraries’ Harmony Week Human Book.

Positive and curious conversations are a feature of Human Book events and questions from the audience are expected, appreciated and will be answered by Duku.

Duku’s story is about a refugee born with a speech impediment.

He and his family of 10 immigrated to Australia in 2007 and came to the City of Logan where he went to school and learnt how to speak English.

He struggled to become fluent and was often bullied leading him to lash out physically and resulting finally in his expulsion from school.

This led to Duku realising he had to make a change in his life and turn it around.

He worked hard to master English and later became an accomplished public speaker, the author of two books and a representative at the United Nations Youth Assembly.

Participants can choose whether to tune in online or attend the Logan Central Library session.
