Peace, quiet and 400 kilos of Epsom salt
In a world of deadlines and stress, many people struggle with the simple art of doing nothing.
The latest trend in health and wellness will help you do just that.
At City Cave, now in 3 City of Logan locations, you can book in for a float therapy session where all you need to do is lie down. As the water is infused with 400 kilograms of dissolved Epsom salt, it’s impossible to sink as you float your troubles away.
The water is heated to match your external body temperature so you can enter a state of theta relaxation, which can reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality and boost mindfulness.
City Cave’s Regional Manager Lera Slape says most people are surprised by how beneficial float therapy can be.
‘Floating gets you out of the constant fight or flight mode that daily life puts us in,’ she says.
‘It may seem like you’re just floating in a bath but there are so many physical and mental benefits.
‘Our team sees a huge change in our customers every day. Someone will come out of a float, and they’ll tell us about how the therapies are changing their health outcomes.’
Unlike traditional float therapy where you’re enclosed in a pod, City Cave boasts lofty open-air float rooms with a pool the size of a double bed. If you’re not a fan of complete sensory deprivation, you can also choose to have lights on or music in the background.
City Cave also offers infrared sauna and more traditional therapies like massage.
‘We’re unique in a sense as we are separate from the spa and allied health industries with a one-of-a-kind range of services,’ Lera says.
‘We also get a lot of male clients as we’ve created a gender-neutral space.
‘A lot of the time, you’ll find that many institutions in the wellness space aren’t as welcoming of all genders.’
You can find City Cave in Springwood, Beenleigh and, most recently, Crestmead.
‘It was a record-breaking opening for the entire network and reception has been so wonderful – everyone is so passionate and excited to come to work because the community is loving the new centre,’ Lera says.
‘In the way that our business is so unique to the area, it’s kind of like an oasis in the middle of the desert.’
