New adventures for scouts thanks to community grant

Thanks to funding, local youth from the Greenbank Scout Group were able to embark on exciting new adventures with much-needed equipment.

Acting Greenbank Scout Group Leader Belinda Anderson says the support from Covella has made the group more accessible and affordable for the wider Greenbank community.

‘The grant from Covella has helped us acquire essential equipment to deliver our program effectively, meaning we can keep fees to our members manageable so that more people in the community can get involved,’ Ms Anderson says.

‘Being able to ensure community members can benefit from the Scouting program regardless of their personal financial situation is invaluable to our operations.’

In 2024, funding allowed the group to purchase a defibrillator kit, UHF radio, spot tracking devices and compasses – enabling the Scouts to safely embark on independent multiple day-long expeditions.

The funding was provided by AVID Property Group (AVID) and Greenfields Development Company (Greenfields) as part of Covella’s annual Sponsorship and Grants Program, which has supported the Greenbank Scout Group for the past 2 years in 2023 and 2024.

‘The funding supported our whole group and gave us the ability to safely facilitate our 11 to 14-year-old Scouts to take the leap of independence needed to achieve their Peak Scouting Award – the ability to experiment with independence while still having secure safety net precautions in place is so important for adolescent development,’ Ms Anderson says.

The Greenbank Scout Group currently leads 185 members ages 5 and above through different environmental, cultural and workplace skill activities to strengthen their social, emotional, physical and intellectual abilities.

Chairman of the joint venture with Greenfields, AVID Executive General Manager Bruce Harper says the opportunity to bolster local groups and organisations through the grants program spread the neighbourly spirit that is abundant in Covella to the wider Greenbank community.

‘The Sponsorship and Grants Program supports local growth and sustainability in the regions surrounding our communities, often by giving a much appreciated helping hand to groups and organisations that some of our residents are involved in,’ Mr Harper said.

‘It is fantastic to see what Greenbank Scout Group has been able to achieve and provide for its community with the help of the grants program over the last two years.’

Entries for the 2025 Covella Sponsorship and Grants program will open on 7 March 2025. For more information visit the Covella website.
